Eruption Construction

Our integrated learning unit this half term has been 'Eruption Construction' which linked Science and Art. We have all made our own volcano using paper mache. We then used coloured paper to collage the detail. Finally we made our volcanoes erupt. We used paper, tubing and sticks to make it look like lava bursting out the tops of our volcanoes.

Blue Friday

Blue Friday ended our Anti-Bullying Week today. The children showed their support for the cause by coming to school in blue. In a final assembly today, every class shared what they had learnt about bullying throughout the week. The children left with the important message to TELL someone if ever they feel that they or someone else might be a victim of bullying.

Anti-Bullying Week

As part of Anti-Bullying week year 3 have looked at a painting by the artist Lowry called 'The Fight' We talked about who the victim was in the painting and how they might be feeling. We used drama to act out the scene. The children took on the role of the onlookers and thought about how they would feel if they saw this happening. We talked about how a persons' emotions can be seen in their face and we used this idea to create masks that would show how the onlookers at the fight might be feeling. We're going to share our masks with the school in our Blue Friday assembly.

Luke: My onlooker is upset because they don't like bullies and they don't think it's nice.
Amy: My onlooker feels petrified because she doesn't know what will happen.
Dima: My onlooker is feeling sad because he doesn't want to get involved if he says stop.

My onlooker is petrified because they don't like it and it isn't nice. They are scared

This onlooker is concerned because he doesn't like bullying.

My onlooker is scared because it would be frightening to see it happen and upsetting to see someone get hurt.

Anti-Bullying Week

This week is Anti-Bullying Week and Denmead Junior School has chosen to support this important event again this year.
On Monday, year 3 had a special circle time to talk about what bullying was. We talked about bullying behaviour and how it might make you feel if you were a victim of bullying. Each class discussed how they could tell if they or someone else was experiencing bullying behaviour. We then shared our ideas in a special assembly at the end of the day.
We decided that bullying behaviour is when ....
1. It is done deliberately
2. It is repeated
3. It is unfair
